Small 8x8 Oil Painting - Orange Knobby Gourd With Bright Yellow Sunflower

We will see a change in the seasons soon whether at home, distancing or whatever our activities are.  Autumn is such a beautiful season.  It brings cooler weather for most of us and and we look forward to the beauty of color even though it falls and changes into winter.  We take this color, texture and season into our homes and celebrate harvest.  This small painting can be arranged with leaves as a centerpiece.  It can be hung as wall art.  To see more about the description click "link".  Or, you can click on the Etsy store link in the column to your right to find it.

JUNE The White Gentile Cow With Rusty Brown And Black Markings

14x18 Framed Original Oil Painting
Cheri Wollenberg
June is a painting that I started a couple of months ago.  I loved painting her.  The rusty brown and black markings on her white coat brought added fun to me as I painted.  My husband and I are retired now and have moved from our latest farm home.  I miss the country and seeing the beauty of God's creation displayed around the rural countryside.  So, I as I follow my inspiration I have an added  special "love" to my love of pushing a paintbrush around (LOL).  June is another cow from my son's herd in Oklahoma.  He manages SOLA (Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction) at Ada, Oklahoma. If you live in our great state drop by and visit with my son or one of his family or coworkers.  June is displayed there for a couple of weeks and I have listed her for sale in my Etsy shop.  She will soon be available as in print.  Just click on SOLA to visit their website or take a look at her by clicking here.

Bird Nest Series - Bird Nest I Blue Eggs

Sometimes we artists need to take time to be with our families, do our day jobs (even if we are retired), or catch up with our friends in community and church apart from FaceBook. So, we have to take sabbaticals from blogging.  I've missed writing about the inspiration that causes me to paint.  I've still been painting, but it seems that writing about it falls to the wayside.  Anyway, I've decided I need to write about inspiration, process and product again in the paintings I do.  My first set of posts will be my Bird Nest Series.  All of these are copyrighted by me.  Click link below or here to see in my Etsy Store.

6x6 Wrap Around Canvas
Original Oil Painting by Cheri Wollenberg

Edges of painting have been painted black.  Many people prefer not to frame.  This makes a clean edge for a painting so that it can be either displayed as wall art or on small easels, or as you see above.

Apple Still Life Painting VII

10x10 Oil On Stretched Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
This painting is another in my apple series.  Most of the paintings in this series are small and were daily paintings.  This view is a stretch for me.  I usually paint from side angles.  I loved the way that the apple was reflected in the silver pot.  The yellow greens complimented the reds and the silver rounded off a primary color scheme.  This painting is listed in my Etsy store.  Click here if you would like more information.

Blue and White Pitcher with Yellow Roses

10x10 Original Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
I have had such beautiful roses this year.  It has not been easy to come by either.  It has taken a good seven years of experimentation, education and hard work.  We live on a hill in central Oklahoma and the dirt is red!  It is red clay but beautiful, but it isn't the best soil or doesn't provide the best conditions for roses, hydrangea or peonies.  Thanks to some wonderful articles in blogs and information on Pinterest I've managed to get my roses to bloom.  I guess my main purpose for working with these particular flowers is that I love painting them.  This particular still life only features a couple, but I'm working on bouquets.  My love for blue and white pottery and china seems to compliment the roses.  This painting is listed in my Etsy store.  Have a LOOK, and thanks for stopping by:)

Strawberries and Demitasse

Strawberries and Demitasse
6x8 Stretched Canvas
Still Life Painting by Cheri Wollenberg

I've been buying  fresh strawberries again.  So, this usually means that because they are so beautiful I am compelled to paint little paintings of them before they are all consumed!  In this little composition I arranged the strawberries around this little demitasse, blue and white cup and saucer.  I loved the primary color scheme it created; however, I must confess that I have several more little paintings in the "oven".
This small painting can be found in my Etsy shop.  You can click the widget at your right on the screen or click here.

Red, Delicious Strawberries - Food Still Life Painting

8x8 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg

Strawberries have a way of coming into my painting compositions every year about this time.  I can't decide whether the inspiration comes from loving the delicious food itself, their color and handsome design, or whether they look  stunning and inviting mixed with other shapes, colors and textures.  Either reason I enjoy painting them as a favorite food and subject in of my small my still lifes.  This one is listed in on Etsy.  Click Here

Rooster for March

12x12 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg

The painting today features a rooster that we raised.  He was such an even tempered and friendly rooster when he was younger.  He was one of four roosters we obtained last spring.  We decided to keep him because he seems to easy going!  However, growing up and becoming the only rooster with five hens, his personality has changed.  I don't know if it is the winter months and not getting to graze freely as much as usual, guarding his hens,  or maybe he has gotten really conceited because he is so beautiful (ha!).   Whatever the reason, I'm so afraid that he may have to leave.  After two episodes trying to attack my husband during feeding time, he may not get to remain as the protector of those hens (lol)!  So, I have been getting lots of images of him so that I can paint him whenever I like.  I listed one on Etsy today.  You can follow this link by clicking "see" to find out more about him.  Thanks for dropping by.

Still Life Painting of Chocolate and Vanilla Dessert

6x8 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg

This little still life painting was from a dessert my grandchildren and I made for dinner.  It had chocolate and vanilla pudding placed in a dessert glass.  After we layered the pudding we topped it with canned whip cream and a cherry.  It was fun; however, I had just as much fun painting it in a small composition. It is for sale on Etsy.  For more details on this little 6x8 painting click here.

Down The Road - Tree Landscape Painting

12"x12" Original Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
I try to paint nearly every day.  Some days I'm successful in accomplishing my goals and some days I have focusing problems!  Some days I look out my studio window which is upstairs in my home, and I see cattle grazing across the road and/or I might have a moment or two giving into a daydream.  Here in Oklahoma we have been experiencing very cold and record-breaking temperatures for the past week and one-half.  The trees that were turning to shades of yellows, rusts and browns are beginning to lose their leaves now and soon will be gray and brown stumps and limbs across winter green pastures.  This painting was a scene of trees about one-fourth mile from our home.  I can see a long ways from my studio...or here in Oklahoma, we might say over yonder!(lol).  I took a picture and this is a cropped view of what I saw that warm day that has turned cold, gray and wintery now.  It is listed in my Etsy store.  Thanks for coming by.

Cherries on Napkin
6x8 Oil on Canvas

I hate to be inconsistent in posting on my blog; however, life has many detours!  I'm working on two very large commission projects so I haven't had the time to paint or post lately.  Here is an offering until I can get other things done.  It is in my Etsy shop.  You can follow by clicking here.

Black Rooster Oil Painting

16x20x1.5 Original Oil Painting
Cheri Wollenberg
Circumstances have kept me from following through on my creative thoughts about new paintings during the last several months.  However, my mind never lets up!  I see paintings in almost every circumstance and event daily!  I live in a rural part of central Oklahoma.  It has been terribly hot with hot, forceful winds parching the earth's soil and foliage during the last couple of weeks.  The grasshoppers are having a hayday.....that is, until we let our new chickens out to graze!(lol).  Recently I was with my husband as we let our lovely poultry crew out to graze.  I had to run back to the house to get my camera.  It was so hot, but those birds love chasing the grasshoppers.  I took loads of photos and this young rooster perked his head up once...beautiful black against the sundown sky.  It was really magnificent!  I painted him as soon as I could.  The painting does not do him or the sunset justice, but it was a delight to do:)  He is listed and for sale in my Etsy store. Just click

White Goat Painting - Charlie

10x20 Original Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
What fun it was to paint Charlie!  He is a white goat with long, twisting horns.  His long white hair is layered in dozens of shades of whites that reflect his surroundings and the natural pinks of his skin.  I decided to paint him on this very oblong format to enhance the nature and design of his horns. I must tell you that he is from a photo that my son took of dozens of these kind of goats.  I do not know how he could keep form getting tangled up with all of the other ones because they all looked alike!!!!  Beautiful and enticing design for compositions of all kinds.  Design elements and principles examples galore!!! Charlie can be found in my Etsy store.  Take a look here.

Cinnamon The Cow - Now Better Than Ever!

16x20x1 Original Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
I painted Cinnamon the Cow several months ago.   I liked painting her but there was something that bothered me, and I couldn't quite pin point the problem. She has lots of texture in her red, Hereford coat and face.  Her hair is thick and curly.  The picture I painted was from a photo I took during winter which explains her rich, thick coat.  Part of the reason I couldn't see where the problem was because I focused too much on her beautiful coat. I loved the hair and enjoyed expressing the texture of her coat so much that I jeopardized the design of the painting.  The image below is of the painting before I tweaked her.  Her neck was wrong, her eyes were wrong and the turn of her eyes were wrong!!!!!!  Oh my goodness....it has taken 6 months to figure out all this and I have corrected those things the last several days.  I'm a "happy camper" artist now.  I still adore the curly, thick hair.  Below is an image of her previously.  Compare and send me comments.  I welcome them.  She can be found in my Etsy store here.
Have a good weekend!

Still Life Painting of Rose Decorated Cup and Saucer

Roses Cup and Saucer Still Life Painting
8x10 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
I love shabby chic décor!  I have always had a weakness for pretty, feminine things and for years my husband tolerated our bedroom in Victorian and Shabby Chic style of décor.  He is a sport:)  I also love painting roses, so every once in a while I just have to paint flowers or an item that has floral décor.  This painting of a cup with red and bright pink roses is listed on my Etsy website here.

Blue Willow Pitcher And Brillian Yellow Lemons

Blue Willow and Yellow Lemons
12x12 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
Blue and white dishes are so beautiful when paired with yellows and oranges.  A nice combination like this is cheery during the cold weather in Oklahoma.  I enjoyed painting it.  You can find it here.

Cow Painting - Sweetheart and Friends

16x20 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
Painting cows is something that I have been doing for about 20 years now.  I still get so much pleasure watching them, photographing them and naming them.  I enjoy and am inspired by other subject matter, but animals seem to give me an extra amount of creative power; therefore, I feel at ease in expressing myself.  Thanks for coming by and looking at my new posts for the New Year of 2014.  You can find out more about this painting by clicking on the title or here:  Click
