Thankful For New Mexico by Artist Cheri Wollenberg

16x20 Original Oil On Canvas Painting
by Cheri Wollenberg - Artist

This painting is one that I began several years ago after I had become so inspired during a trip to New Mexico.  I love their grand state, and it truly is a land of enchantment.  I also love my own state of Oklahoma.  It has it's own brand of beauty that is enduring to me.  I'm thankful that I'm here with my family.  During this unpredictable and discouraging season of COVID 19 it is good for me to remember some wonderful trips my husband and I have made through the years.   I'm also grateful for digital cameras....nice ones too!  We can record lots of photos on them.  Another time I'll share about the old (yet wonderful) SLR cameras that allowed a limited amount of images on a roll of film.  So much to be thankful for today!  Thank you New Mexico for your friendly people and beautiful land that we can visit and come away enriched with enchanted visions!

I'm Only An Oil Painting Artist!

I have sadly neglected my blog for quite some time again!  This past year (2016) has been a very eventful and fascinating year in my art life!  A couple of years ago I had an opportunity to license a painting of some whimsical snow carolers.  They were printed on popcorn tins during the Christmas shopping season of 2014 and 2015.  It was delightful to see this happen, but I have had some of my work licensed for other products during 2015 and 2016 and amazingly these works have been printed on things like dishes, rugs, pillows, fabric, and so forth.  To tell you about this is way too long and boring, which brings me to the next series of blog posts.  They are fascinating to me, because I'm Only An Artist, but I admire quilters so very much.  The block pictured above is around 100 years old.  This one is from a group that was given to me from my granny's unfinished stash about 20 years ago.  That's a story in itself, and I will share more about it later.  Starting tomorrow I'll be sharing the process of a quilt being made by a lady who is using the fabric from my designs sold by Robert Kaufman.  She has generously shared her process through images and notes and I'm excited about this to say the least!  And, concerning the story of the 100 year old quilt blocks made by my granny and her friends......that will have to come later.  For now, I'll end this post by using Paul Harvey's famous words...please tune in tomorrow to hear...."The Rest Of The Story".

Cinnamon The Cow - Now Better Than Ever!

16x20x1 Original Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
I painted Cinnamon the Cow several months ago.   I liked painting her but there was something that bothered me, and I couldn't quite pin point the problem. She has lots of texture in her red, Hereford coat and face.  Her hair is thick and curly.  The picture I painted was from a photo I took during winter which explains her rich, thick coat.  Part of the reason I couldn't see where the problem was because I focused too much on her beautiful coat. I loved the hair and enjoyed expressing the texture of her coat so much that I jeopardized the design of the painting.  The image below is of the painting before I tweaked her.  Her neck was wrong, her eyes were wrong and the turn of her eyes were wrong!!!!!!  Oh my goodness....it has taken 6 months to figure out all this and I have corrected those things the last several days.  I'm a "happy camper" artist now.  I still adore the curly, thick hair.  Below is an image of her previously.  Compare and send me comments.  I welcome them.  She can be found in my Etsy store here.
Have a good weekend!

Red Enamelware Pot With Red and Yellow Flowers and Lemons - A Still Life Painting

Red Enamelware Pot -Red and Yellow Flowers
8x8 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
Summer is brightness and fun.  Artists express what is around them.  I have many favorite items to set up in still lifes to paint.  In this painting I wanted to convey a mood of  brilliance and brightness - summer in this case with this little daily painting.  Reds and yellows convey warmth so my choices of items were perfect for what I wanted to create.  This painting is listed on Etsy.  You are welcome to visit there or contact me personally about the purchase of this painting.  Have a happy summer!

Eggs II

6x8 Original Oil on Canvas
by
Cheri Wollenberg
I've wondered the last several days how creative an artist could be in painting eggs.  I think since I seem to be consumed with this topic and chickens lately, I'll explore it a little bit.  These eggs certainly tasted good.  They were supposed to be laid by cage-free hens.  They are a pretty golden brown color and I enjoyed painting them.  It makes a nice subject for a daily painting....lots of practice and just plain fun!  This painting is listed in my Etsy store.  You may take a look at it by clicking Eggs II.

Autumn Reminders

Autumn Reminders
12x16 Oil on Canvas
by
Cheri Wollenberg

It is that time of year isn't it? As an artist my eyes see the leaves beginning to turn, the gourds in various colors and designs are showing up at the super markets, and pumpkins are appearing at the farmers' markets on the weekends here at Fayetteville, Arkansas.   It is a beautiful time of the year. The colors are fabulous and dazzle my eyes. I just have to set up some arrangements and get to painting! If I wait too long it will be winter and there will be other things to inspire me. I can't wait to capture some of the beauty of these items. This is one of my first posts. It was the last one I finished last year. I will start in the next few days on smaller daily paintings and gradually work to a larger arrangement. This painting may be purchased at: //www.chatterboxart.etsy.com.
