Cinnamon The Cow - Now Better Than Ever!

16x20x1 Original Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
I painted Cinnamon the Cow several months ago.   I liked painting her but there was something that bothered me, and I couldn't quite pin point the problem. She has lots of texture in her red, Hereford coat and face.  Her hair is thick and curly.  The picture I painted was from a photo I took during winter which explains her rich, thick coat.  Part of the reason I couldn't see where the problem was because I focused too much on her beautiful coat. I loved the hair and enjoyed expressing the texture of her coat so much that I jeopardized the design of the painting.  The image below is of the painting before I tweaked her.  Her neck was wrong, her eyes were wrong and the turn of her eyes were wrong!!!!!!  Oh my goodness....it has taken 6 months to figure out all this and I have corrected those things the last several days.  I'm a "happy camper" artist now.  I still adore the curly, thick hair.  Below is an image of her previously.  Compare and send me comments.  I welcome them.  She can be found in my Etsy store here.
Have a good weekend!

Animal Painting of a Goat - Mr. Handsome

Mr. Handsome
14x18 Original Oil Painting
Cheri Wollenberg
Thanks for stopping by.  I am glad to be back and blogging. It has been quite some time since I last posted. A change in my domain caused my blog to be down for a month.  I've painted a lot of paintings during that time, and I'm anxious to share them all with you.  Mr. Handsome is one of the goats I painted from a collection of photos my son took while working in Texas.  He has a customer who has a herd of goats and they are beautiful.  Each goat has a different design quality in texture, color and shape.  This particular goat has three horns...WOW.  The hairs on his chest were flowing in the wind which lent to the composition movement.  He has blacks, browns, sienna browns and ecru whites throughout the design of his face and coat hair. I thought this mustard green made a perfect background for his portrait.  He was a delight to paint, and I look forward to painting others.  This goat painting is for sale here.

Still Life Painting - Copper, Crock and Red Onions

16x20 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
This summer we had a great garden.  The okra, black-eyed peas and tomatoes are the only veggies that are still producing at the moment.  Every vegetable that we've taken from our garden was beautiful to me!  Yes... I'm amazed that food can actually start from a "wee" little seed and bring forth fruit that can nourish and sustain us.  What a miracle!  The red onions were the inspiration for my painting here.  They are beautiful in color and texture.  Their design brings joy to my brush:)
You can find this painting here.

Watermelon - A Summer Snack

Watermelon - A Summer Snack
by
Cheri Wollenberg

This painting of watermelon was something I’ve wanted to do all summer. In fact I have another one started at the moment that is much larger. Creating the texture, color and form in this small 6x6 format was a pleasant process. My grandson, Cole, ate this piece plus a couple more as soon as I finished.  This painting can be purchased at my etsy website:  http://www.chatterboxart.etsy.com/

Two Tomatoes

Two Tomatoes
6x8 Original Oil on Wrap Around Canvas
by Cheri Wollenberg

Well, I lost the race!  My husband and I were in a race to raise the first tomato of the year.  I opted to get the "new" upside down "cherry" tomato version (laugh - it was the most creative), and he went with the regular "beefy" one that gets large.  I (without telling him) fertilized mine...but he won anyway.  We had a feast on his tomato by making tomato and bacon sandwiches...ummmmmm.  I was inspired to paint tomatoes again.  Every year I paint tomatoes when they become ripe in harvest.  They are lovely to look at.  They have such beauty in their texture and color.  Just by previous experiences of eating them, a visual memory brings my mouth to water.  Hopefully this little composition will do the same......bring a memory of a previous, sensual experience that includes the beauty, the red color, the texture and taste of the simple tomato.
