Thankful For New Mexico by Artist Cheri Wollenberg

16x20 Original Oil On Canvas Painting
by Cheri Wollenberg - Artist

This painting is one that I began several years ago after I had become so inspired during a trip to New Mexico.  I love their grand state, and it truly is a land of enchantment.  I also love my own state of Oklahoma.  It has it's own brand of beauty that is enduring to me.  I'm thankful that I'm here with my family.  During this unpredictable and discouraging season of COVID 19 it is good for me to remember some wonderful trips my husband and I have made through the years.   I'm also grateful for digital cameras....nice ones too!  We can record lots of photos on them.  Another time I'll share about the old (yet wonderful) SLR cameras that allowed a limited amount of images on a roll of film.  So much to be thankful for today!  Thank you New Mexico for your friendly people and beautiful land that we can visit and come away enriched with enchanted visions!

Barn Landscape Painting Bella Vista, Arkansas Original Art by Cheri Wollenberg

Barns are an interesting subject to view as we travel through the countryside. We appreciate their practical use and wonder what kind of animals are kept in them, or what kinds of farm products are stored in them. They tell a story...usually of farmers and families; however, they entertain many who love to view rustic country scenes throughout our nation. I saw this barn as we traveled north to Missouri. The barn was up on a hillside and I snapped it at a perfect time from the car. I was so glad to get the image so that I could paint it later, because I loved the beautiful rustic colors of the fall and earth from down below.  You can purchase a print of this barn by following the highlighted description under the image above.

Artist Studio At Payne, Oklahoma

Two years ago in 2018 we decided to downsize from a large old farmhouse in which we had put twelve years of  hard work.  It was almost 100 years old then, but had very good bones.  We loved fixing it up.  It had the original "pecan" wooden floors downstairs and plain wooden floors upstairs.  It was not an easy thing to do because in some ways it was a dream that we got to live out, and we weren't really ready to hang up our hats.  The image above is the room I made for a studio.  This is before we replaced the 4-window wide area with a very large picture window.  The photo was also made before I brought up a lot more furniture, paintings and painting supplies. It was the best light I've ever had to paint in.  Even though I have a very large studio space now in Shawnee, Oklahoma, I still miss the north light of that studio.

Old Homestead Near Cordell, Oklahoma

9x12 Oil On Stretched Canvas
by Cheri Wollenberg

This small 9x12 original painting is of an old homestead near Cordell, Oklahoma.  I've painted it several times in different sizes.  It always interested me.  In spite of the badly deteriorating state it was in it seemed to have a beautiful story behind it.  We would see it consistently every year when we traveled west toward the Texas panhandle on our trips to New Mexico.  Once it was old and gray and almost falling down, but the next summer it had been white-washed and sort of pushed back into a vertical position.  Once it looked as if it had been used as a Halloween haunted house:)  I was always so curious about this old home.  I wondered if it had been made to look good for a movie, magazine story or if it was dressed up because of Route 66 promotional materials.  Whatever....I loved this old home.  I'm very curious about past stories,  and I truly wish I were a writer and I could bring it to life by my own creative thoughts, but this will certainly not happen!!! (LOL)  If you are from Cordell, Oklahoma and have some comments please feel free to comment here on my blog or my FB page:https://www.facebook.com/ArtbyCheriWollenberg/
This small painting is listed in my Etsy store.  You can follow this link to see it.

JUNE The White Gentile Cow With Rusty Brown And Black Markings

14x18 Framed Original Oil Painting
Cheri Wollenberg
June is a painting that I started a couple of months ago.  I loved painting her.  The rusty brown and black markings on her white coat brought added fun to me as I painted.  My husband and I are retired now and have moved from our latest farm home.  I miss the country and seeing the beauty of God's creation displayed around the rural countryside.  So, I as I follow my inspiration I have an added  special "love" to my love of pushing a paintbrush around (LOL).  June is another cow from my son's herd in Oklahoma.  He manages SOLA (Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction) at Ada, Oklahoma. If you live in our great state drop by and visit with my son or one of his family or coworkers.  June is displayed there for a couple of weeks and I have listed her for sale in my Etsy shop.  She will soon be available as in print.  Just click on SOLA to visit their website or take a look at her by clicking here.

Old Ford PickupTruck Painting

Old Ford Pickup Truck
16x20 Original Oil On Stretched Canvas
by Cheri Wollenberg
This original oil painting features an old, vintage pickup truck that I painted from a photo.  I took the photo while on a trip to New Mexico about 10 years ago.  It had been parked and may be forgotten by now.  It reminded me of days when my father loved the Ford brand.  Nearly all of his vehicles were Fords.  This painting would make a great gift for someone as a birthday or Father's Day gift.  Christmas gifts can always be promised at a later date since postal delivery is not a promised at this point in 2018, but, nevertheless, delivered later.  You can find this painting in my Etsy shop by clicking here.

Santa V - Jerry

Santa V - Jerry
16x20 Original Oil Painting 2018
Cheri Wollenberg

Santa V is a friend from my husband's and my past.  Actually he was one of my husbands highschool students.  He along with his family lived just down the road from our country home.  I saw a photo of him a couple of years ago dressed up as Santa Claus.  I thought he made a very good model for a painting so I asked if I could use his photo.  He graciously gave me permission and I'm quite happy the way he turned out.  I'm hoping he has a chance this year, 2018, to give a boy or girl hope for a gift or blessing that might change their life in some way.  Stay tuned for more a few more Santa paintings this year and in the meantime you can find Jerry at FAA by either clicking this image in the border section of this post or clicking here. I also have a slide video posted on my FB page of my painting process of Santa V.  If you decide to visit my page listed below feel free to "like" and follow any art updates.  Thanks.

Santa I

Santa I
9x12 Oil on Canvas Board 2018
Cheri Wollenberg
Santa I has already found a home; however, I wanted to tell about him.  As I painted him I felt he was in a "stew" to get somewhere...to accomplish something that was important and he needed to do it quickly.  This is probably why his beard became unruly and seemed to be blowing with the wind against his face like fighting impending forces of responsibilities.  Honestly, I think I was painting my feelings that day (LOL)!  I had not painted in a while because of our move, and I couldn't wait until I had a brush in my hand to begin my warm-up sessions.  I had painted small pumpkins earlier, but never seemed to accomplish much, so I chose whimsical Santas for subjects,  and I'm thinking I will have to leave them for a year now since I've acquired a few other paintings to do for others.   I'm hoping to get one more, Santa VI, finished before I do.  Thanks for dropping by.  I have a few of these fellows in my Etsy store.  They need a home as well:)

Whimsical Santa Claus IV

16x20 Original Oil Painting
by Cheri Wollenberg

I've painted a lot of Whimsical Santa Clauses lately.  I've also painted more realistic ones.  The old world style of Santa Claus really intrigues me. These paintings have been a lot of fun to plan and begin the process of placing them on canvas.  I played Christmas music today as I painted.  I'm thankful for the season, for what it means to me spiritually and that I can in some way make others smile a little with my ideas or the execution of the idea on canvas.  This is listed in my Etsy store.  Just click here.  Also, to see other Santa paintings and demos follow me on FB at

A Pumpkin Just In Time

With Pink Polka Dot Background
6x6 Original Oil Painting on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg 2018

I suppose it's never too late to start again!  Life brings many diversions but time rolls on.  This small pumpkin will be a post starting again!  I haven't posted for a while now, but hopefully I'll make a habit of it again.  This small, autumn still life painting was a warm-up project you might say.  Sometimes when I've not been able to paint for a week or so I want to experience physical sensations of smell, touch, sight and problem solving to prepare me for a larger project (LOL).  This happens to be one of those.  It is listed in my Etsy store.  Take a look here.

Apple Still Life Painting VII

10x10 Oil On Stretched Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
This painting is another in my apple series.  Most of the paintings in this series are small and were daily paintings.  This view is a stretch for me.  I usually paint from side angles.  I loved the way that the apple was reflected in the silver pot.  The yellow greens complimented the reds and the silver rounded off a primary color scheme.  This painting is listed in my Etsy store.  Click here if you would like more information.

Apple Still Life Painting V

Apple Still Life Painting V, Uno Apple Painting
6x6 Oil on Stretched Canvas
Daily Painting by
Cheri Wollenberg
This small oil painting was one of the first paintings featuring apples that I did a couple of weeks ago.  I wanted to experiment with changing backgrounds, altering my style somewhat, and learn about painting them again.  I found out that however I try to paint, I usually have a style that presents itself.  But it is fun to try different ways of doing things.  This small painting can be found in my Etsy store.  Just click here if interested.

Apple Still Life Painting I

6x8 Oil Painting
by Cheri Wollenberg

Recently I decided I was going to paint several small and medium sized oil paintings of apples.  I needed to learn some things again.  I've done a lot of animals in the past 6 months so I decided that I would study the apple again (lol).  This apple is listed on Etsy.  Have a look by clicking Here.

Farm Rooster Trio

10x10 Oil on Canvas Painting
by Cheri Wollenberg

As my blog states I am a visual artist and I make journal posts about my paintings.  It has been a long while since my last post here on Dancing Brush by Cheri.  It may seem strange, but I sometimes find it harder to write than paint. Composing my thoughts in an organized manner has never been my forte.   In this painting I used a photo that I had taken of our chickens and roosters.  Actually we had 5 roosters at the time.  The only hen in the painting is the white one.  I cropped the photo off to hone in on the three. There were several others around them, but I like the way the heads of these particular "poultry specimens" seemed to have different expressions as if they were "eyeing or sizing up" the viewer (me)!  I hope to cover my tardiness with more regular blog posts in the next weeks.   I'm gathering thoughts (lol).  This painting is in my Etsy store.  You may click the link  Farm Rooster Trio for more details if you are interested.  Thanks for coming by!
