This small 9x12 original painting is of an old homestead near Cordell, Oklahoma.  I've painted it several times in different sizes.  It always interested me.  In spite of the badly deteriorating state it was in it seemed to have a beautiful story behind it.  We would see it consistently every year when we traveled west toward the Texas panhandle on our trips to New Mexico.  Once it was old and gray and almost falling down, but the next summer it had been white-washed and sort of pushed back into a vertical position.  Once it looked as if it had been used as a Halloween haunted house:)  I was always so curious about this old home.  I wondered if it had been made to look good for a movie, magazine story or if it was dressed up because of Route 66 promotional materials.  Whatever....I loved this old home.  I'm very curious about past stories,  and I truly wish I were a writer and I could bring it to life by my own creative thoughts, but this will certainly not happen!!! Miriam's Quilt - Part III - Post 4

I heard several days ago from my Facebook Friend and Quilter that she had been busy with personal things, but she has resumed working on the quilt made from the Down On The Farm fabric by Robert Kaufman.  If you are reading this blog and do not know then I must tell you that the animals printed on these fabric panels are from my original paintings.  I'm so honored and excited that there are quilters who are using this fabric in some of their projects whom I actually know or have discovered online.  The creative process of their work is very different from mine; however, we have connected in subject matter....the love of country, nature and farm animals.  Thank you again Miriam for sharing your process with me.  Here is her last post message to me.  Enjoy!!!!!

Hi Cheri,

To continue with the quilt, I had to work on the 9 patch block. It is called 9 patch because it has 9 squares that you sew together. However, 4 squares are two half triangles that are sewn together of different colors. A lot of work goes into the 9 patch blocks. In addition, I was able to started to start sewing the blocks together in a row. I now have 4 of the 8 rows done. After all the rows are done I have to start working on the sashings that goes between each row and on the top and bottom of the quilt with their corresponding small gray squares.

I will try to put more time into the quilt as time permits. As I am sure you know, our time is not always ours to do what we want. I will admit, I am looking forward to finishing it soon. Will continue to keep you up to date.

How time gets away!  Writing sometimes takes longer then painting!  This little still life painting features a Blue Willow Pitcher that I purchased several years ago.  I have painted it so many times and I love the sparkle that it brings to compositions with yellows, oranges and rusts.  This is a small daily painting that I finished several weeks ago.  It is featured in my Etsy store.  Have a look:)  Blue and Yellow!

This painting features a young British White Cross that was on my son's ranch for a while. I think she is fine and I thought Charlene was a good name for her. She has an innocence about her, don't you think? She is set against a dark red background which seems to accentuate her white coat.

I have to admit....I'm easily diverted from one subject to the next. My real problem is being constantly inspired by everything!! Certain colors, shapes, compositions (abstract or realistic),patterns everywhere are all sparking my creative juices. I can't keep up, but I'll share some of the things that I am doing. Pears are such sensational fruit to paint. Artists paint them in endless styles. In this particular arrangement I decided to create an dramatic mood. The composition is of three formally balanced pears with an extreme, dark background. They are placed on a black surface and as the light hits them, the yellows of the pears reflect onto one another and onto the surface. The darks of the surface actually refract or reflect back onto the pears throwing orange up on them. So exciting! The format of 6x18 establishes the mood further and it is painted on the sides. It is a simple painting that is very exciting and after the style of early masters. I loved painting them. I'll probably paint them again.
