Barns And Homesteads
Landscapes are physical pictures of scenes or sections of scenery that our eyes are set upon visually...or viewpoint. We can't see the whole countryside, but we can see a rural or pastoral scene and deceive ourselves that it is something that can be documented just the way we see it. We see it and lose it almost in the same capture of our eyelids. The camera is the closest that can get it, but the life and beauty of that view can never be caught exactly the same again. Even painting plein air frustrates the best artists sometimes! But, as artists we can use documentation with cameras and videos and pretend we see the wind moving things, colors changing and decide what we want to do with those wonderful memories on our canvas. Our eyes can blink and a shadow is there...a leaf...a precious moment! These landscapes are special because they contain man-made buildings or dwellings that alter the properties of nature somewhat, but still leave us with a wonderful story to tell.
