I was traveling to the studio this morning.  It is only three miles from me so I don't get too much viewing of the "townscape"between home and there, but this morning within a couple of blocks from my destination I noticed that the leaves on the maple trees that line the streets are beginning to turn red!!  Gee, no one told me it would be overnight that the color would be there!!  Amazing how much joy color can bring.  I love it!  It first reminds me of growing up which is a story for another time! We haven't even had a freeze yet, and my husband is mowing the lawn almost every other day!!  What can I say?  It just sneaked up on me (LOL).  I listed this painting yesterday in my Etsy shop.  If you are from Shawnee or the surrounding area and are interested in taking a look at it, it resides in my studio window downtown!  Thanks for taking a look.  I loved painting this little still life too.

Clementine is a black baldy cow.  She seems to be gazing out of a window at her viewer doesn't she?  Our family has been in the cattle business for over 50 years.....going back to my husband's dad who was a farmer and raised cattle.  I especially love to see this crossbred cow mixed with Hereford cows grazing on green pasture.  The design in color, texture, and composition is very exciting for me. This summer we had a great garden.  The okra, black-eyed peas and tomatoes are the only veggies that are still producing at the moment.  Every vegetable that we've taken from our garden was beautiful to me!  Yes... I'm amazed that food can actually start from a "wee" little seed and bring forth fruit that can nourish and sustain us.  What a miracle!  The red onions were the inspiration for my painting here.  They are beautiful in color and texture.  Their design brings joy to my brush:)

Pearl is named after a dear friend of mine and my husbands.  We knew him for 10 years and our lives were blessed because of him.  This painting is in his memory.  The cow painted here has a very sweet and pensive look.  I am pretty happy with the design and color of him.  His Hereford coat is red, rusty browns, and his face has whites of beautiful blue, warm beige and browns.  Pearl has sold; however, prints can be bought of him at Fine Art America.    If you are interested click here.....Pearl.

Red!  I love the color!  It is is exciting and stimulating.  I loved it as a child, and I think that I may be stimulated to it as a moth is to light.  Red can have both positive and negative connotation as a symbol in our language.  I would not want negative things thought about me personally, but I have a strong attraction for the color.  I would not want others to think of me as being overly confident or outrageous or some of the word language that it could imply, but I do tend to love it in my wardrobe.  A confession that I can make is that I have felt extremely “good” or “appropriately loud” at times in my life when I wore red (laugh).  One thing I know…..red is beautiful, it is exciting, and it gets my attention.  My desire to paint with red is that I simply like it.  I recently purchased a red vase.  It has been “screaming” for me to paint it; but frankly, it is hard to place with other items in a still life.  It is if this vase demands to be the “star of the show” or the focal point.  For some reason I’m challenged to pursue its possibilities and experiment with this vase.  I’m going to paint it in two ways.  This is my first post where I believe I have suppressed its total importance (because of it's exciting color)……giving the first focal direction to a flower….the poppy.  My next post about this vase will be that it is the most important focal point in an arrangement.   Either way………..Red is beautiful!
