Vintage Crock With Blue Stripes and Two Red Bell Peppers

9x12 Inch Original Oil Painting

by Cheri Wollenberg

Food always tells a good story if it is grown in your garden. A couple of years ago I had a container garden and I did very poorly on my tomatoes and for the first time ever I grew these gigantic red and green bell peppers! Of course they were so exciting to me I had to set them up in a charming still life and compose a painting. I enjoyed doing this one. It would look good in a cooks' kitchen or any place of eatery!

Still Life Painting - Copper, Crock and Red Onions

16x20 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
This summer we had a great garden.  The okra, black-eyed peas and tomatoes are the only veggies that are still producing at the moment.  Every vegetable that we've taken from our garden was beautiful to me!  Yes... I'm amazed that food can actually start from a "wee" little seed and bring forth fruit that can nourish and sustain us.  What a miracle!  The red onions were the inspiration for my painting here.  They are beautiful in color and texture.  Their design brings joy to my brush:)

Golden Onions and Crock

8x10 Original Oil Painting
by
Cheri Wollenberg
It has been an extremely busy week for me, but I managed to finish a few paintings I had started.  This painting of onions and crock is one of them.  My brush danced until I started painting the loose onion skins.  Expression with the brush comes hard and fast for me most of the time, but when approaching a  more complicated area in a compositional set up, I begin to choke up the speed, get in another gear,  and look a little harder at the elements of some subjects.  My first inclination is to say to myself, "This is hard, what were you thinking, why challenge yourself, and you don't have time?"  Then I find myself (using the left side of the brain) thinking out logically that it is only a matter of shapes and lines, don't get bogged down with the subject matter, and get on the other side of the brain and enjoy it.  So, I enjoyed this one!!!!  To purchase this painting click Golden Onions and Crock.

Apples and Crock

8x8 Oil on Canvas
by
Cheri Wollenberg
Painting apples has been the subject I have explored for over a week now.  It is sort of like eating one thing until I'm really tired or burned out of that particular food group.  This may be a condition.....I don't know (laugh)!  I have grandchildren who do this,  and we worry about them and their nutrition.  My ability to be consumed with things drives me as inspiration until it is played out to my satisfaction.  Then I have to go on to the next thing.  Since I've created all these apple paintings, I have started pansy paintings!  I'll begin posting them as soon as all the apple ones are "blogged".
