Miriam's Quilt - Part II - Second Post - Down On The Farm Quilt

This is the second post of Part II of Miriam's process of the  Down On The Farm Quilt/Designed by Cheri Wollenberg...fabrics by Robert Kaufman. Thank you again Miriam for the beautiful images showing your steps.  Today's post is quite colorful.  Blog Readers I've posted the text and images here:

3.  Next, I took the animal print squares and added a strip of fabric (called sashing) to one side of the frame.  To every piece of fabric you sew on, you must iron to flatten the stitches first and then you turn the fabric over and iron again.  I have completed all the animal squares sashing.

George - Painting of Multi-Colored Goat

14x14 Original Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg
George is "George of the barnyard" instead of the jungle!  He is another one of the goats that my son photographed.  I think I've had more fun than he did as he shot the images!  He said there were so many of them that it was impossible to take photographs of each one individually.  He said it was a most enjoyable event:)  I certainly love painting them.  George has so many rustic sienna shades, natural and earthy shades that are so raw or un-man-made.  I may go in and touch some of the brightest (not lightest) shades of the sienna colors because they really need some variation.  In the natural light (not the photo) I'm sure they were almost orange to light yellow ochre.  This is really the problem with doing things from photos....you really can't see the shades accurately; however, you can do a lot of interpretation and expression......thus the fun of being the Painter!  George is listed in my Etsy store.  Just a click away!!!!

Lilacs And Small White Daisies Painting

Lilacs In Copper Pot With Small White Daisies
14x14 Oil on Canvas
Cheri Wollenberg

This is a small change in my regular daisy painting this week...I decided to do another flower along with daisies. Of course lilacs are not in season right now but I was doing a search in my images for daisies and came along this still life set up I had photographed. I have this really sweet hand-painted China bowl that I'm always wanting to paint, but never can find anything to put with it to my satisfaction. In this arrangement the copper seemed to enhance the lilacs (the star of the show) and the little white daisies added to the floral arrangement. Then I noticed this great little bowl. I like it placed as a second focal point. Purples, yellow oranges, greens and white daisies make a nice color combination. The painting as a whole could be better if done from life....photographs are flat in dimension, not showing the light paths, but it was a great excercise. I enjoyed it. Click lilacs to find it.

The cherries are calling to me again!  I wanted to paint something with reds for the new year so I got all my images out and found some photos of cherries from a little "photo shoot" I had back when we had some fresh cherries at a nearby market.  I thought I might experiment in several ways so here are a few of my results.  I plan to post some more.  Both these paintings may be purchased on my etsy site at chatterboxart by simply clicking Cherries.
